M3D2 Insight Listening

Q Introduction During Modules 3 and 4, you are asked to plan and carry out collaborative insight listening exercises based on Chapter 3 of Kiefer and Constable’s book The Art of Insight (Links to an external site.). Perhaps you have already practiced insight listening techniques, although you were not aware that you were doing so. This activity aligns with module outcome 2. Discussion Questions For this discussion, please share your initial thoughts on Chapter 3 of The Art of Insight. Discuss any aspects of this method that are new to you or ones that you have already put into practice in the workplace. • Try some of the techniques mentioned in the section on "Practicing Insight Listening." What insights did you gain? • How do you think you might apply this learning to carrying out the exercises in steps 2 through 5? • Include confirmation that you have a plan for carrying out steps 2 through 5 below. Confirm that you have arranged to meet with another person for Steps 2 through 4 and with two people for Step 5. You do not need to include the names of these people if they would like to remain anonymous. Directions for the Process During Module 3, complete Step 1 and plan for Steps 2 through 5, the four insight listening exercises. During Module 4, you will reflect on the results of these exercises, including the impact they had on preparing for your Term Project topic selection. Steps 2 through 4 require two people. They take about an hour and can be done in one sitting or separately. You can do them in person, on the phone or by video conference such as Skype. Step 5 requires 3 people and takes about 45 minutes. The assignments may be completed with someone in the class or outside the class. The instructions state that the Step 5, the trio assignment, often has better results with people who have not completed the prior listening exercises, so you may have better results if you work with someone outside of our class for Step 5. Here are the five steps to be completed during Modules 3 and 4: Step 1: Preparation • Review Chapter 3, “Insight Listening (Links to an external site.),” from The Art of Insight: How to Have More Aha! Moments. • Download “The Art of Insight Exercise Reference Manual (Links to an external site.)” (These instructions are also in Chapter 3 of the Kiefer and Constable book included as a part of the reading assignment, though it may help to have an extra copy available to refer to during the exercises.) Step 2. Listening with Nothing on Your Mind (Links to an external site.) (10 minutes) Step 3. Fresh Thought Hunt (Links to an external site.) (20 minutes) Step 4. Coaching for Fresh Thoughts and Insights (Links to an external site.) (30 minutes) Step 5. Insight Trio Exercise (Links to an external site.) (45 minutes) Complete all 5 steps by the end of Module 4. Use the Insight Listening process as an aid in choosing a topic for your Final Project (due during Module 4), involving a problem you see in society which can be solved with a product, event, occupation, etc.

I have already used insights in my creation of creative piece in the past. This is because I have shown interest in listening to podcasts. Podcasts are interesting and useful for getting inspired to become more creative. This is because there can be listening to the precious statements of important personalities who might have achieved great things in their lives. Though podcasts are recordings, the voice of the individual being interviewed can be listened directly like in a conversation.
